Lively and fresh Highland whisky flavor proffering sweet honey, cooked apple dusted with icing sugar, lime zest, and a supportive lift of vibrant spices before diffusing into sugary squares of Scottish tablet. Water accentuates the peppermint in the finish and brings out sugary chocolate-mint flavors. One not to miss.

Glasgow-based Douglas Laing & Co are independent Scotch Whisky bottlers and blenders headed by Fred Laing, who proved the value of nepotism when he succeeded his father, Fred Douglas Laing who founded the company in 1948. In 2013, Fred enlisted the third generation of Laing’s and brought in his daughter Cara believing in the ethos of Women in Whisky – and why not? She worked at Whyte & Mackay for quite some years as Brand Manager of Jura Single Malt before moving on to market Bowmore and Glen Garioch Single Malts – an apprenticeship of some considerable note and value, with a deep love and appreciation of the Scotch Distillers art in general, and a soft spot for those 3 in particular. A key feature of Douglas Laing is our fine stock of different Malts built up over many decades and it’s been a pleasing perk, benefit and privilege for Fred and our Global Malt Ambassador Jan to nose and taste some of the finest quality samples. Today the company has a small but growing band of loyal followers around the world.
Douglas Laing’s Timorous Beastie Blended Malt Scotch Whisky, immortalised in Robert Burns’ famous Scots poem ”To a Mouse”, was a timid, little field mouse. Echoing our national bard’s wit, ours is most certainly not for the fainthearted! This non coloured, non-chill-filtered Small Batch bottling is a marriage of appropriately aged and selected Highland Malts – including, amongst others, those distilled at Glen Garioch, Dalmore and Glengoyne distilleries. Incredibly sweet on the nose, with light floral and spicy honey tones. The palate is spicy, and sugary, carrying notes of raisin fudge, with a sweet yet subtle finish.
Tasting Notes
NOSE: Sweet on the nose, then warming to floral, light barley & spicy honeyed tones.
PALATE: Spicy, fructiferous, mellow, with sugary vanilla.
FINISH: Subtle, but runs to a sweet character that carries an oaky quality plus a late meringue style.
