About
The Castellani Family produce classic wines in Tuscany since more than 150 years. Every generation continually experiment with their vineyards and cellars in order to select the best Tuscan wines to be bottled under the family brand. Exporters of wine since 1903, the Castellani family have founded their high-quality wines on the belief that “the quality of the wine starts in the vineyard”. For the past 25 years, the family has worked hard to refine the soil types and microclimates that enhance their ‘great Tuscan vines’, investing in research and new technologies to ensure the Castellani name continues to be associated with ‘memorable wines’.
The wines of Ceppaiano are born, as well as from grapes grown according to the highest quality criteria, also from this spirit that wants to give ‘back to wine its highest task, what it does, according to Plutarch, “a drink that frees man’s soul from fear, from lies, from servility” To do this we have established a dialogue between wine and art, in particular modern and contemporary art, what we believe is able to create a symbolic bridge towards a possible future world, the one that makes people feel freer.
In 1989 the Castellani Family invited Keith Haring to Pisa to realize what would become his most important permanent public work, the monumental mural “Tuttomondo”. On that occasion, the artist gave the family a label he had made for the house wine of a friend’s restaurant, hoping that one day it could be used for a prestigious wine produced in Tuscany. Today, more than 30 years later, this project finds its realization thanks to a special commemorative cuvee produced by the Castellani family in one of its best vineyards, the Tenuta di Ceppaiano on the Tuscan coast. A special thanks goes to the Keith Haring foundation which granted the possibility to use the original image. This wine is dedicated to freedom of expression in every area of civil life.
Tenuta di Ceppaiano K.Haring Toscana is a wonderful Sangiovese Cabernet blend, Brunello style. Hand-picked grapes are immediately fermented in the modern cellars of Ceppaiano following the traditional vinification methods. The ageing takes place for 12 months in French oak barrels.
A pretty red with balsamic, sour cherries, tangerines and fresh herbs. Medium-bodied and fine on the palate with silky tannins, carrying through layers of floral red fruit. Tangy and minerally on the finish. Really good acidity. Not a concentrated wine, but a characterful and elegant red. 60% sangiovese, the rest in merlot and cabernet sauvignon.
It is and ideal wine to accompany Pasta dishes and spicy Mediterranean dishes.
