About
“Surrau, in Arzachena, is one of the most interesting new wineries to come onto the scene in recent years.”—Gambero Rosso 2018
Surrau is located at the entranceway to Sardinia’s Emerald Coast in the northeast corner of the island in the heart of the Gallura appellation. Its perfect position, tucked between the Limbara massif with its granite peaks, and the crystalline waters of the Mediterranean, provides a perfect growing area for both whites and reds of extraordinary elegance. Though the DeMuro family are native Sardinians who have practiced viticulture for generations, the modern day story of Surrau began in the early 2000s, when Tino DeMuro dedicated himself to the family vineyards. His vision of Surrau was as a messenger of his family’s passion for their land to the world. Today, the DeMuro family owns over 50 hectares in seven different locations in Gallura, over 70% of which is planted to vermentino. The soils are mainly decomposed granite and sand rich in marine fossils. The near constant influence of the Mistral winds is a strong line of defense against disease; the estate practices sustainable agriculture, integrated pest management, and ferments with indigenous yeasts.
Surrau Cannonau di Sardegna is made with 100% estate-grown Cannonau, grown in decomposed granite soil mixed with sand. Alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel, aged in stainless steel and cement tanks. 30,000 bottles produced annually.
Ruby red color with light hints of garnet. Intense aromas of red fruits with spicy notes with a soft, warm, and full taste. Pairs well with meat and mature cheeses.
