About
Sierra Cantabria was founded by Guillermo Eguren, a self-made bodeguero, who followed a family tradition of vine growers. Today, the fourth generation of the Eguren family directs all aspects of the winemaking process, with Marcos Eguren as the winemaker and director of operations and his brother Miguel Angel Eguren as the general manager.
The village of San Vicente de la Sonsierra is nestled in the heart of the famous Rioja region, where the Ebro river and the Sierra Cantabria mountains go hand in hand and contribute to the harmony of the fruit of the land. San Vicente always offers wines of great quality by exclusively selecting the Tempranillo Peludo grape variety. Harvest is always carried out by hand, selecting only the best fruit from our single vineyard called La Canoca: a decision that gives quality the highest priority and makes our wines a model of wine production.
San Vicente Rioja is bold, but quite developed and slightly dusty, this Rioja has some date and dried-banana character. Full-bodied, but only moderately rich for such a big red. Could do with some more freshness, but I think it’s outstanding.
