About
Rochelt was Founded in 1989, adhering to very strict criteria: the finest fruit, precise distillation, optimal maturation, continued self-criticism, and refinement. Since 2003, Rochelt has been run by the Rochelt sisters, Julia, Annia, and Teresa, along with Alexander Rainer, founder Gunter Rochelt’s student and son in law. Rochelt brandies are 100% pure, produced from tree-ripened fruit, naturally fermented, distilled twice, with no sugar added. Spirits mature in open glass balloons at a minimum of 100 proof. Rochelt’s extended glass balloon resting sets them apart, scarifying economics in favor of the sole goal of quality that honors the tradition of late Gunter Rochelt. The brandy is clear, yet unfiltered, maintaining the depth and authenticity of the fruit. The “Pincer” is a traditional Austrian bottle shape.
Rochelt considers their Rochelt Black Elderberry Schnapps 2003 bottling to be a specialty. The fruit is grown in Lower Austria, where it is hand harvested and crushed by the growers. After fermentation, the berry mash is distilled twice in copper pot stills. The heart, requiring 121 lbs of berries for a 1L yield, was rested for Thirteen Years! in glass balloon. Bottled at 50% alc/vol. without filtration, no sugar added.
