About
In 1996 after years of searching, Betty O’Shaughnessy Woolls and Paul Woolls began what today is known as the O’Shaughnessy Estate Winery. This event was solidified by the acquisition of land in Howell Mountain, Mt. Veeder and Oakville. Today these seasoned vineyards yield quality fruit that reflects the effort of the O’Shaughnessy team; a process beginning in the mid-nineties resulting with their first bottling in 2002. Winemaker Sean Capiaux crafts wines in a nuevo style, classic wines with modern implements, specializing in Cabernet Sauvignon with supportive roles played by other Bordeaux varieties; Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Malbec, Carmenere, St. Macaire, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. From inception, the process of meticulous clonal selection and site location has resulted in rich, complex wines that will continue to evolve for many years to come.
O’Shaughnessy Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, 5% Malbec, sourced from 56% Mount Veeder, 29% Howell Mountain, 15% Oakville. Aged for 20 months in French oak (75% new) and 8 months in bottle before release. 3431 cases produced.
O’Shaughnessy Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has a lively bouquet of violets, sandalwood, wild plum, and kirsch. The palate is dense and focused with integrated tannins and layers of boysenberry, crème de cassis, bittersweet chocolate, and tobacco. This is a wine that immediately impresses and will have a long life in the cellar.
