About
Lagavulin distillery was founded in 1816 and is located in the village of Lagavulin on the island of Isla. Lagavulin is known for producing very heavily peated single malts, thanks to using heavily peated barley and short stills with wide necks. It is currently owned by Diageo and is a part of their Classic Malts brands.
Lagavulin 16 Year Single Malt Scotch Whisky is probably one of the best known and highly acclaimed single malts on the market, it is a winner of numerous competitions, including double gold in San Francisco International Beverage Competition. It is bottled at 43% alc/vol, peated to about 40ppm.
Tasting Notes
NOSE: One of the smokiest noses from Islay. It’s big, very, very concentrated, and redolent of iodine, sweet spices, good, mature sherry and creamy vanilla.
PALATE: Very thick and rich. A massive mouthful of malt and sherry with good fruity sweetness, but also a woonderful sweetness. Big, powerful peat and oak.
FINISH: Long, spicy finish, figs, dates, peat smoke, vanilla.
