About
Located along the western foothills of Napa Valley’s celebrated Oakville district, adjacent to Crabb’s historic To Kalon estate, the Detert family vineyard has grown outstanding Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon since 1953. Over the decades, our grapes have helped establish Napa Valley, and particularly Oakville, as the premier Cabernet winegrowing region in the world.
Four generations of family winegrowing and years of consistently remarkable home wine production revealed to us that we should be showcasing the Detert vineyard in a small production wine. Our mission is to produce exceptional estate wines that are a pure expression of our land.
Detert Family Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is made with 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Cabernet Franc. Practicing Organic & Sustainable, cordon pruned – split canopy management, deficit irrigation, hand-harvested. The grapes come from a part of the historic To Kalon Vineyard, planted in 1997 to Clone 4 and “Horton Clone” – another family clone from the property, grafted and planted in 2015. Aged 18 months in 225L French oak (60% new).
Detert Family Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon displays graphite, mineral, plum, cassis, dark fruits and dark chocolate aromas, that translate to the same wonderful flavors on the palate. Broad and penetrating, with a really compelling energetic core of mineral, black cherry and savory herb notes. Fantastic texture and length and a long complex finish that shows off beautifully integrated tannin. A lot of complexity, detail and classic character here.
