About
Gordon & MacPhail are one of the biggest and oldest independent bottlers in Scotland, and have been a family run business since 1895. They source the best barrels on the market to age the spirit from various distilleries, and all of their offerings are of tremendous quality, never chill-filtered and no caramel color added. They are also owners of the Benromach distillery – the smallest distillery in Speyside, but one that is famous for producing one of the best artisan single malt Scotch whiskys.
The most southerly of all the distilleries is Bladnoch. The distillery was founded in 1817 and changed hands many times during the 20th century. It was closed from 1938-1956 during which time the distilling equipment was removed and shipped to Sweden. It was later owned by Inver House (1973-1983), who sold it to Arthur Bell & Sons PLC, who were subsequently taken over by United Distillers. The distillery was closed in 1993. In 1994 Raymond Armstrong purchased the distillery and opened a visitors’ center. In 2000, production recommenced. Although the distillery does not triple distill, it does produce a typical Lowland style of malt whisky.
Bladnoch 21 Year Gordon & MacPhail Connoisseurs Choice is one of harder to find single malts, it was aged for 21 years in refill sherry hogsheads, and bottled at 46% alc/vol. with out chill filtration.
